Sam was born in Northern Ireland in the last half of the 1800s to Robert Aiken and Margary Cargill. He had a brother named Thomas who was born in 1868.
On 3/8/1943 Sam was admitted to the Oregon State Hospital, a residential facility in Salem, Oregon for the treatment of people with mental illness. He died there about 10 months later and the cause of death was said to be "senility."
