CREVE COEUR - Richard Frank Ascherl , 56, of 340 Hawthorne Circle died at 9:40 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at Pekin Hospital in Pekin.

Born Feb. 9, 1947, in Chicago to Frank G. and Estelle G. Schlobohm Ascherl , he married Sandra Lynn Fox on March 3, 1968. They divorced in March 2001.

Surviving are two sons, Richard "Chip" of Washington and Robert (and Kristyne) of Peoria; two grandsons; and the Tommy Sauder family, with whom he made his home.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Vietnam War Air Force veteran, he attained the rank of staff sergeant and served as a radio operator in the Philippines.

A graduate of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with a degree in automotive technology, he was a service manager at Beres Motors and Midtown Imports for more than 20 years until moving to New Orleans. He then worked at Gemini Goodyear in New Orleans until February 2003.
An avid pool player, he owned and operated Golden Cue Family Billiards in North Pekin from 1980 to 1984, and designed cues for Huebler Industries.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cumerford-Endsley-Diggle Funeral Home, 428 W. McClure Ave. in Peoria.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Veterans Cemetery in Pekin.
