Hilda was the daughter of Martha Birdsall and her husband Samson Preston. She was sister to Clara Preston Hull, and half sister to Florence Birdsall Carden.
Frank Taggart and Hilda Preston married September 15, 1915 in Wissahickon, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at Wissahickon Methodist Church. They had one daughter who lived, Nancy Taggart Young, wife of Roy Young.
