Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 23, 1999, at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home, Manitowoc. Rev. Steven Olson will officiate. It was Gerda’s wish to be cremated and to have her cremains buried next to her husband at Knollwood Memorial Gardens.

She was born July 24, 1915, in Leipzig, Germany. Her parents were the late Charles and Marie Kaesekamp Hempel. Gerda was educated in Germany and attended the Max Reinhard Drama School, in Hollywood, Calif. She married Ira L. Place on August 10, 1943, in Manitowoc.
