SURGOINSVILLE – Mary Elizabeth Thurman, age 85, of Surgoinsville, went home to be with her Heavenly Father, Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at Asbury Center in Kingsport.
She was a member of Surgoinsville First United Methodist Church for 60 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who would have celebrated her 63rd wedding anniversary on October 19.
She was preceded in death by her father, John J. Wolfe; mother, Nancy Christian Wolfe; brother, Billy Wolfe; sisters, Emma Ruth Wolfe and Neva J. Blair.
She is survived by her loving husband, James Neil Thurman; son, Wayne Thurman (Mary Nancy); daughters, Carolyn Caldwell (Vernon) and Shirley Gillespie (Jack) all of Church Hill; grandchildren, Karen Smith (Glenn), Justin Gillespie (Holly) and Marcella Vleminckx; great-grandchildren, Timothy Neil Smith and Jacob Elijah Gillespie; brother, Hubert Wolfe of Kingsport.
Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Surgoinsville's Maintenance Fund, P. O. Box 134, Surgoinsville, TN 37873.
The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2009, at Surgoinsville First United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Cynthia Thompson and the Rev. Randy Lantz officiating. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 10, 2009, at Highland Cemetery.
