BEDFORD - Paul Gaylord Clarke, 75, of Bedford, formerly of Ellettsville, passed away peacefully at St. Vincent Hospital, Bedford, on Tuesday, February 22, 2011. He was the youngest of five, born May 7, 1935, in Vincennes to Justin A. and Edna (Couch) Clarke..
Paul was a Korean War Air Force veteran, a member of AMVETS and the American Legion, both of Bloomington, and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Bridgeport, Illinois. His interest have always been photography, writing and a passion for classical music. He participated in the Monroe-Owen County Senior Olympics several times. Paul has touched many lives and made many friends through his stays at R-BB Health Care Facility, Gosport Nursing Home, Garden villa and Core Nursing and Rehab in Bedford.
Mr. Clarke and his family moved to Bloomington in 1969 where he went to work at RCA as a part expeditor. Later he worked for the Indiana Department of Transportation as a field office manager and assistant to the project supervisors and engineers. He served the state in that capacity for 25 years.
Paul will be greatly missed by his only son, Paul Eric Clarke, and daughter in-law, Sherri, of Bloomington; four grandchildren, Reese Clarke, Rhiannon Clarke, Derek Smith and Tiana Cazee, and several nieces and nephews. Paul was especially close to his niece Penny Studley and husband, Steve.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Karla, who passed away in 1998; brother, John Clarke; and sisters, Mary Elizabeth "Ibby" Foster, Kathryn Eloise "Ollie" Woodcock and Patricia Ann Blagrave.
Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2011, at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral home in Spencer. A committal services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 26, 2011, at Valhalla Memorial Gardens in Bloomington, There will be a celebration of Paul's life at his son and daughter in-law's home immediately after the service Saturday.
