Mr. Ackerlund had lived in Madrid all his life. He was a retired lathe operator with John Deere Des Moines Works in Ankeny and a member of Garden Prairie United Church of Christ, Lions Club, Garden Club, and Madrid Historical Society. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Viola; four daughters, Carlene Anderson of Nevada, Karen Anderson of Huxley, Carolyn Santi of West Des Moines, and Kristin Yaple of Blue Springs, MO; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to his church or Madrid Historical Society.
