Deloris Moon Oxley, 1922-2010

Deloris Ruth Moon Oxley died on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at the Crestview Manor in Webster City,
Iowa. She was 87.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 17 at the United Methodist Church in Corwith with the Rev. Denise Group officiating. Interment followed at the Corwith Cemetery Corwith.
Serving as casketbearers were Scott Segar, Jason Moon, Herb Moon, Joe Moon, Steve Claus and Chad Hill. Honorary bearers were Donald Claus, Justin Jensen, Brian Moon, B.J. Hubbard and Josh
Krueger.
Deloris Ruth was born on August 13, 1922, near Galt, Iowa, to William Cloyd and Edith Schmidt Kennedy.
She graduated from the Clarion High School in 1942. She then attended Normal Training at Cedar
Falls. After her schooling, Deloris worked as a telephone operator for two years in Chicago, Illinois. She was married to Herbert Moon on
October 25, 1947 at Clarion. The couple lived in several towns in north central Iowa, where Deloris
raised her family. During this time she worked as a caregiver in Eagle Grove and also as a nurses' aid in the nursery at the Britt Hospital for eight
years.
Deloris was a member of the Corwith United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Britt Hospital Auxiliary. She also taught Sunday School and Bible School. While living in Corwith, Deloris did wallpapering, painting and sewing for area people. She and Herb also operated a floor cleaning business and mowed the cemetery and the city park. Her husband, Herbert preceded her in death on June 23, 1985. Deloris enjoyed sewing, crafts, gardening, flowers and remodeling her home. She was always able to give a helping hand to people in need.
Deloris was married to Lafayette V. Oxley, Jr. on January 29, 1992, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple
lived in Corwith. Lafe preceded her in death on May 2, 2007. Surviving are her children, Howard Moon and wife, Marcia, Kamrar, Iowa, Muriel Segar, Tuscon, Arizona, William Moon, Corwith,
LuAnn Jackson and husband, Dennis, Webster City, Anita Witte and husband, Dennis, Webster City, Jean Ewing and husband Bruce, Webster City and Janet Moon, Corwith. Also surviving are 32 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson and 3 sisters, Dorothy
Foster, East Moline, Illinois, Iris Mae Bagnard, St. Peters, Missouri and Zola Kinnick and husband, David, Footville, Wisconsin and Lafe's
children, Steve Oxley and wife, Carol, State Center, Iowa and Mary Ellen Fjetland and husband, Dennis, Clarion, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Herbert Moon and Lafayette Oxley, Jr., brothers, Ronald and James
Kennedy and sisters, Shirley Scott and Ramona Williams.
