Samuel Newton Boyd

Sam was the son of William R. Boyd and Mary Ann Holland. Husband of Lena Lucy Porter. He lived all his life in Ozark, Missouri. He was a farmer and miner.

Samuel Newton Boyd was born Jan. 1, 1893, at Ozark, Mo., and departed this life at his home, 2 miles south of Ozark, on October 7, 1953, at the age of 60 years, 9 months and 6 days.

In 1912, he was united in marriage to Lena PORTER and to this union were born five children, all of whom, with their mother, survive. They are twin sons, William R. BOYD and John R. BOYD, both of Kansas City; Mrs. Lola STEWART of Springfield; Mrs. Betty Jane CREED of Kansas City, Kan.; and Miss Mary Jo BOYD of the home. He is also survived by three brothers, Edward and Ware BOYD, both of California, and Joseph BOYD of St. Joseph, Mo. five sisters, Mrs. Alice THOMPSON of Springfield, Mrs. Sally BUNCH of Nixa, Mrs. Celia CHAPMAN of Ozark, Mrs. Lydia MCGLOCKLIN and Mrs. Jessie PEW, both of California; four half-sisters, Mrs. Beulah WELLS, Rogersville, Mrs. Fannie DELMON and Mrs. Eva LAUGHLIN both of California, and Mrs. Goldie BRAY of Idaho.

He was a member of the Christian Church at Ozark. Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 10, at 2:00 pm in the chapel at the Chaffin Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Worth Caughron. Burial was in Hopedale Cemetery under direction of Chaffin.

His death occurred sometime during the night, and he was discovered dead in his bed early Wednesday morning by Mrs. Boyd in their home south of Ozark. Mr. Boyd had recently underwent a series of major operations for serious abdominal condition, but death was attributed to a heart attack.
