"Elmore County Its Historical Gleanings"

Mrs. Laura A. Ake, a resident of Mountain Home for many years passed away January 3, 1949, and will be buried from the Bey Chapel Thursday, January 6. Mrs. Ake was born at Salem, Oregon, in 1861 and came to Rocky Bar, Idaho, when a small child, later moving to and homesteading with her husband, a ranch north of what is now called Mountain Home. Mrs. Ake knew some of the most stirring and colorful times in Idaho history, gold rushes, covered wagons, Indian wars, the coming of the railroad and the building of Mountain Home. Mrs. Ake, in her childhood, traveled back and forth to school between Rocky Bar and San Francisco, CA, going by stagecoach to Kelton, UT, and then by train. She and her husband, Frank P. Ake, built up their ranch into one of the show places of Idaho. Many of the business buildings as well as the local irrigation system were built by and owned for many years by Mrs. Ake and her husband. A kind and gallant lady, she will be welcomed on the other side for the many qualities that endeared her to all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her husband Frank P. Ake, and three daughters, Dorothy Ake, Lail Ake Rose, and Eva Ake Fenton. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ake of Seattle, who has been with her during her illness of the last several years, and Mrs. Paul Montgomery with whom she made her home; one grandson, David A. Rose of San Francisco. Services will be conducted by Rev. George Dreher and the Eastern Star of which she was a Charter Member.
