Catherine M. Jokerst, 52, of Festus, died Friday (July 6, 2001) in Herculaneum from injuries suffered in an automobile accident on Interstate 55.

Mrs. Jokerst was the mayor of Festus. She was elected in 1987 as the first female councilman and served several terms until being elected as the first female mayor of Festus. She established the Festus Firecracker Festival, served on the organizing board for Twin City Days and was instrumental in establishing the Jefferson County Water Co-op. She was a member of the Jefferson County and the Missouri municipal leagues and the JMH Auxiliary and was past state president of the Missouri Hospital Auxiliaries. She was a Jefferson County board member for the Mid-East Area Agency on Aging. She was on the Sacred Heart Church Homecoming Board.

The funeral Mass was Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church in Crystal City with burial at the church cemetery.

Among survivors are a son, Scott Jokerst of Arnold; four sisters, Connie A. Thompson, Debra R. Lupkey, Donna M. Conte, all of Festus, and Erica E. O'Brien of Barnhart; and three brothers, Raymond E. Earls of Festus, Edward G. Earls of De Soto, and Richard E. Earls of Crystal City.
