Donald L. Herrold, 82, of Souderton, died Monday, June 15, 2009, at Grand View Hospital. Born in Port Trevorton, Pa., he was the son of the late Thomas and Helena (Bingaman) Herrold. He was a graduate of Selinsgrove High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Susquehanna University, playing on the varsity basketball and baseball teams. He received his master's degree from Bucknell University. He also served in the U.S. Army. He taught math at Souderton Area High School for 35 years, where he served as the chair of the math department, retiring in 1990. He was also class advisor for the Class of 1974. He was also a former math teacher, basketball and football coach at the Forty-Fort High School, Forty-Fort, Pa. He was advisor for the High-Y teen club at Forty-Fort High School. He was chosen by the National Science Foundation to spend summers at the University of Florida, Gainesville, Michigan State University, Lehigh University, Bucknell University and Temple University. He also taught math at Ursinus College in Collegeville. He served as regional representative and legislative chairman for the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball and was an assistant coach for the Souderton Area High School baseball team. He was a member of Lansdale Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his sister, Hazel Herrold. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 20 at the Lansdale Methodist Church. Interment was in Souderton Mennonite Cemetery, Souderton. Arrangements by Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home and Crematory, Souderton.
