Doyce was injured when he jumped off a bridge into shallow water. He broke his neck and was paralyzed from the neck down. My mother (his cousin) was present at his home shortly before his death. She said that right before he died, he lifted his arm upward and said, "Take me now." He passed away on February 19, 1960 and was buried in Buchanan City Cemetery, Buchanan, Georgia.
