John Maynard Griffith was the son of Noah Griffeth (Griffith) and Esther Wightman. He married Angelina Elizabeth Dickinson, "Babe of the Alamo" on 8 July 1851 in Houston, Harris County. The couple had three children, Almeron Dickinson Griffith, Susanna and Joseph. Angelina abandoned her husband John and three children shortly after the birth of the last child in 1857. Not much is known of John Maynard after Angelina's sudden departure. He served in the Civil War and stayed in the Houston area until his death about 1868. He is believed to be buried in an unmarked grave in the Griffith Family Cemetery in Dobbin, Montgomery, Texas
