He attended the Bensenville grade school, graduated and the following year received instruction and was confirmed in Peace Church on Palm Sunday, 1912, by Rev. H. Wagner. The following four years were spent as a student at Lewis Institute where he graduated in June, 1916.

The following year Mr. Franzen spent in Arkansas operating rice farms for his father after which he became interested in the plumbing and hardware business. In 1922 he purchased the local hardware and plumbing business from Carl E. Kirchhoff. On June 2, 1923 he was united in marriage with Miss Rose Greinke. After retiring from business in 1934 Mr. Franzen spent several years in California, returning to Bensenville in 1944 where he was employed at the Douglas Aircraft factory until the end of the war.
