William Allan Chase was born in New York on 7 Apr 1879, the son of Charles Edward Chase (1844-1890) and Jennie Aurora Sherwood Chase (Chase) Brigham (1854-1921). His father and mother were apparently distant cousins. On 2 May 1907 he married Bessie Leona Williamson (1888-1916) in Matamoras, Washington County, Ohio, across the Ohio River from Friendly, West Virginia, where she was born and where their families lived at the time. They had 2 children:

After Bessie's early death William married Gladys Irene Caldwell and they had one daughter, Edith Louise Chase.
William had two siblings, brothers Francis "Frank" Warren Chase (1877-1950) and Eugene Elmer "Bud" Chase (1882-1944) [ Find A Grave Memorial# 65927098 ]. William's brother Eugene married Nellie Williamson. Nellie was the sister of William's first wife Bessie Williamson.
