Born St. Marc sur Richelieu, Quebec Province, Canada

Alex was born in the small farming town of St. Marc sur Richelieu in Quebec, Canada. Around 1850 the family emigrated to St. Albans, VT in the USA. Alex was married in St. Albans on September 16, 1864 to Vitaline "Helen" Rocheford. A decade or so later, many members of the Rocheford and LaChapelle families came to Nebraska seeking a better future, including Alex and Helen. The family tried homesteading in Holt County, NE, eventually abandoning their claim and moving to Omaha where Alex worked in the construction trade. After a time, Alex and Helen moved to Pawtucket, RI, where other members of the Rocheford and LaChapelle families had settled. They continued to live in and around Pawtucket, RI until their deaths.

Mortuary.
Alexander LaChapelle.
The funeral of Alexander La Chapelle, a well known and highly esteemed resident of the Woodlawn section, took place from his late residence, 20 Capital street, this morning at 8:30 o'clock. A high mass of requiem was solemnized at St. John's Church at 9 o'clock by Rev. Fr. Gaton.

There was a large attendance of relatives and friends, many being present from Worcester and other cities, and there was a profusion of beautiful floral tributes placed about the casket.

The interment was at Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery, and the bearers were: George, William, Arthur and Emmett LaChapelle, sons of the deceased.

Mr. LaChapelle is survived by a wife and four children.

Note: I think the pall bearer, George, is in fact Alexander's grandson - son of William H. LaChapelle. In the 1900 census, George is living with Alexander and Helen LaChapelle. The fourth son the obituary refers to would have been Alexander's oldest son, Joseph Alexander. Joseph would have been living in Omaha, Douglas County, NE, USA, in 1907. I do not know if Joseph attended his father's funeral.
