Son of Luis Mendez Montano born in Mammoth and Maria Torrez born in Tucson. He was a locomotive engineer for the St. Anthony Mine and lived with his wife Nellie at Tiger. He is buried with his parents and sister Mary Montano Flores. According to his death certificate, he was struck by a battery motor in a traumatic injury with fractured right scapula and right humerus and pneumothorax-surgical shock. The accident occurred on January 30; he died after one day at St. Mary's Hospital.
