MERCEDES - Miguel Munoz Castillo, 82, passed away on Monday, April 7, 1997, at the Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. He was born in Santa Maria, Texas, and had lived all his life in Mercedes.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the WW II. He was a member of the Mercedes American Legion in Mercedes.

He is survived by his wife , Emma Quiroga Castillo of Mercedes; his seven sons, Mike Castillo Jr. of Grand Prairie, Baldo Castillo, Omar Castillo, Julian Castillo of Mercedes, Raul Castillo of Weslaco, Jose Castillo, Roberto Castillo of Mercedes; four daughters, Corina C. Figueroa, Margarita C. Rincon of Mercedes, Emma C. Gonzales of Donna and Lolly Castillo of Donna; one brother, Jose Ybarra Castillo of Michigan; two sisters, Dominga C. Luna of Calif., and Maria C. Bazan of Corpus Christi; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 13 nephews and nieces.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Lydia Castillo Garcia, in 1983.

A rosary was held on Wednesday night at the Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Weslaco.

Pallbearers will be Mike Castillo Jr., Baldo Castillo, Julian Castillo, Raul Castillo, Jose Castillo and Michael Castillo.

A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 10, 1997, at 2:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Mercedes. Officiating will be Deacon Juan Trevino. Burial will follow at Mercedes Memorial Restlawn Cemetery in Mercedes with full military honors. Officiating will be V.F.W. Post No. 2410, American Legion Post. No. 205 Of Harlingen.
