Robert "Bob" L. Markson, 76, of New Hartford and formerly of Utica, Sackets Harbor and Watertown, passed away January 1, 2007 in Faxton-St. Luke's Health Care Center, New Hartford. He was born on November 13, 1930 in Utica, the son of Rita Freudenheim Markson and the late Arthur Markson. Bob was a graduate of Utica Free Academy and Chicago University. On March 7, 1957, he married Doreen Riley in Las Vegas, NV. Bob was employed with Consolidated Freight in Watertown. He also worked in the former Markson Furniture Store located on Bleecker Street as a boy and following his graduation from Chicago University. After his father's death, he served as president and manager. Soon after the closing of the family store, he went to work for Ribyat's Furniture Store and The Carriage House in New Hartford. Bob then moved to Watertown where he managed the Sperling Furniture Store.
He was a Past Master Mason of the Moriah Lodge #958, F&AM. While in Sackets Harbor, Bob was actively involved in the 1812 Re-enactors, portraying the role of Commodore Isaac Chauncey in battlefield enactments. He is survived by his mother, Rita Markson; his daughter and her partner, Deborah Markson and Angela Bunger of Englewood, CO; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Heather Markson of Merrimack, NH; his grandson, Patrick Markson; his sister, Dorothy Kletter and her family in Israel; his former spouse and her partner, Doreen Markson and Paul Baker of Clinton; his aunt, Esther Markson; and his cousin, Sam Markson, both of CA; and his good friend, Jim Cox of Watertown. His graveside service will be 2 p.m., Friday in Temple Beth El Cemetery, Wood Road, Whitesboro, with Rabbi Jeffrey Segall officiating. Contributions in his memory may be offered to the 1812 Re-Enactors, Sackets Harbor Battlefield Alliance, P.O. Box 27, Sackets Harbor, NY 13685. Bob had been a resident of the Sitrin Health Care Center for the last six years following a stroke, and the family wishes to thank the entire staff for their kind and gentle concern and special care over these difficult years.
