Charles Tredwell Redfield, 86, son of Onondaga County's pioneer printer and publisher, died Thursday noon at Glen Haven, Cayuga County, where he had resided for the last 40 years. Funeral services will be held at Oakwood Chapel Saturday afternoon. He is survived by one son, Robert Longstreet, and six grandchildren.
Mr. Redfield was born in Syracuse Oct. 6, 1837. His grandfather was Peleg Redfield, a soldier in Washington's Army. His father, Lewis H. Redfield, was born in Connecticut in 1792. The family moved here in 1894 [sic], settling in what is now Onondaga Valley. The father started the publication of the Onondaga Register, later merged with John Durnford's Syracuse Gazette. The senior Redfield conducted the Redfield book shop here for many years. He died in 1882.
Charles Redfield was engaged in the wholesale hardware business here for many years in the firm of McCarthy & Redfield. When he moved to Glen Haven he continued to operate a shop there, securing many patents on various tool inventions.
