North Stonington - Steven W. Brewster Jr. of North Stonington, passed away early Monday morning on Feb. 28, 2011.

He was born in Claremont, N.H., on July 6, 1978. He was the loving son of Steven W. Brewster Sr. and Grace Nelson and the stepson of Theodore J. Nelson and Tricia Brewster.

Steve attended local schools in New London and later graduated from Montville High School in 1996 with honors. During high school, Steven participated in wrestling, baseball, and soccer. He graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University in 2002 with a degree in biology and minor in chemistry. He did post graduate work at Oregon State University.

He joined the Brainard Lodge of Masons in Niantic in 2003. He was a 32nd degree Mason with the Norwich Valley Scottish Rite. He was an avid golfer, and he had recently remodeled his home in North Stonington. Steven enjoyed camping, kayaking, and spending time with his many friends.

Since 2004, he had worked in the pharmaceutical industry and for the last four years at Rhodes Technology in West Warwick, R.I., in the quality control department. He had a strong work ethic, rarely taking any sick days or personal days off. He felt a responsibility and obligation to his fellow employees in the lab. Steven was thoughtful and kind, considerate, and polite. He always thought of others' feelings before his own.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, John and Geraldine Brewster, his paternal grandmother, Janice Bushey, his maternal grandmother, Grace Farnum, and his stepgrandmother, Naomi R. Nelson; his sisters, Chelsea and her husband, Steve Gocka, Antonia, Faith, and Martha; and his brothers, Joshua and Patrick; along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins; his foster brothers and sisters; and his dog, Stella, who will all dearly miss him.

He was predeceased by his stepgrandfather, Theodore Nelson Jr.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 6, at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. A Masonic funeral service will be conducted by Brainard Lodge of Masons at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Quaker Hill Baptist Church, 144 Old Norwich Road. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery, Quaker Hill.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Women's Center of Southeastern Connecticut, 16 Jay St., New London CT 06320.
