Esther graduated from Gordon Military Junior College at Barnesville in 1915, attended Agnes Scott College, later specializing in piano and voice at Bessie Tiff College. She taught school in Reidsville for nine years and organized the Reidsville Garden Club, serving as President for seven years. She was the Methodist Church organist for twelve years and active in choir work for many years. Taught young adults in the Sunday School , Vice President of the Woman's Society of Christian Service for eight years, and past Regent of St. Johns Parrish Chapter of the Daughters of the American Colonists. She was also Past Regent of the Vidalia Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution.

In her later years she was a national accredited American Camellia Society Judge and member of the Middle and East Georgia Councils of Flower Show Judges. During World War II she was county chairman of the Junior Red Cross and served as county chairman of the Heart and Cancer drives for many years.
