Anetta R. Popken, 90, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, April 19, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Alva F. Hohl Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Anetta was born Jan. 25, 1917, in Delmont, S.D., to John and Katherine (Eberle) Ruff. She graduated from Delmont High School in 1934. In 1942, she moved to Sioux City, where she graduated from St. Vincent School of Nursing.

On Dec. 25, 1948, she was united in marriage to Wallace R. Popken. He preceded her in death on Aug. 5, 1995, in Sioux City. Anetta began her career as a registered nurse in public health and then for an allergy clinic. For the next 30 years, she worked for Drs. Boggs and Ratino and retired in 1985.

She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ. Her greatest enjoyment was her family.

Survivors include a daughter, Constance Popken of Sioux City; a granddaughter, Erin Popken of Sioux City; and a sister, Adella DeVries of Sioux Falls, SD.

She was preceded in death by her husband, eight sisters and a brother.
