Obituary:
Guy A. Stewart, 86, of Bluffton, died at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, at the Meadowvale Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Stewart lived most of his life in Wells County. He was a 1941 graduate of Bluffton High School and entered Purdue University in September 1941. He was inducted into the Army in 1943 and was discharged in 1946, attaining the rank of master sergeant. He returned to Purdue and graduated in 1948 with a degree in electrical engineering. He received a master's of business administration degree from Indiana University in 1952. Mr. Stewart was active in the Democratic Party. He was Wells County auditor from 1985 to 1990. Prior to serving as Auditor himself he assisted Auditor Geoff Frank serving as his Chief Deputy Auditor He was a member of the Bluffton City Council from 1992 to 1995 under Mayor Everett Faulkner. He served for several years on the Wells County Alcoholic Beverage Board. In his professional life, he held engineering positions with companies in Boston and Chicago, and also with the Studebaker Corp. in South Bend. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Bluffton and a past member of the Optimist Club. He was born Aug. 28, 1923, in Wells County, to Oscar W. Stewart and Naomi P. Arnold Stewart. He is survived by a sister, Arleen (LeRoy) Hill of Fort Wayne, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd A. Stewart and Robert A. Stewart, and a sister, Vivian Nash. Calling will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, at the Thoma/Rich, Chaney and Lemler Funeral Home. Services will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. Cindy Osgood officiating. Burial will be at the Prairie View Cemetery at Tocsin.
