Funeral services were held Monday for James Marion Pierce, resident of Ravia and Russett for more than 65 years. Mr. Pierce was born in Cooke County, Texas, Feb 3, 1867 and came to this area before statehood. Until weakened by age, he was engaged in farming. He had been in poor health for two years when he died at home in Ravia Saturday. Services were conducted in the Church of God by Rev. L.R. Winninger at 2 pm Monday.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Pierce; six children, Wesley Pierce, Mrs. Verna Peden and Fred Pierce, all of Ravia, Cecil Pierce of Sulphur, Mrs. Naomi Tuley of Wynnewood and Mrs. Edna Lee Newman of Sherwood, OK; and two sisters, Mrs. Fannie Cumbie of Russett and Mrs. Paralee Craig of Fairfax; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Burial was in Ravia Cemetery with the Watts Funeral home in charge. Pallbearers were Don Hathorn, Charley Mobley, Ed Fields, Emet Akins, Floyd Chaney and Johnny Moore.
