Hobart A. Hazelwood, 74, of Crab Orchard, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at his home. Born May 4, 1927, in Rhodell, he was the son of the late John Floyd and Macie Lucas Hazelwood.

Mr. Hazelwood was a retired coal miner. He was a member of the UMWA. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in Guam, receiving the African Theater Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal and the Victory Medal.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Hollins Hazelwood; and a brother, Raymond Marshall Hazelwood.

Survivors include three sons, Floyd Allen Hazelwood and his wife, Nila, of Stanaford, Dennis Hazelwood and his wife, Joyce, of Backus Mountain and Gary Lee Hazelwood of Chester, Va.; a daughter, Sheila Elaine Perkins and her husband, Tom, of Angier, N.C.; two sisters, Oberita Wade of Princeton and Lena Mae Clemons of Glen Lyn, Va.; four grandsons, Thomas Hazelwood, Dennis Hazelwood II, James Allen Hazelwood and Steven Lee Hazelwood; four granddaughters, Melissa Elaine Carpenter, Barbara Ann Parrish, Lisa Marie Perkins and Laura Lynn Perkins; and six great-grandchildren, Alicia Cherie King, Kristopher Lee King, Brandon James Parrish, Andrew Rage Parrish, Ashley Christine Parrish and Chloe Raquell Carpenter.

Service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Cecil Smith officiating.

Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Grandsons and friends will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements by Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley.
