Was born in Ware County to the son of Richard and Mary McDonald Bennett.
He was married to Emma Smith , she was the daughter of Austin Smith.
Daniel and Emma never had any children of their own but adopted Emma's sister's son 'CHARLES' - Charlie Davidson (son of David and Missouri Smith Davidson of Waresboro)
Mr. Bennett served 4 years in the Confederate Army.
He enlisted at Waresboro (April 18, 1861) in Company 'E' 26th Georgia Infantry Regiment, CSA as a PRIVATE. He was appointed ORDNANCE SERGEANT , July 18, 1864. He was granted a sick furlough on February 15, 1865 and the war was over before his furlough expired.
Mr. Bennett lived in Waresboro and a farmer and merchant.
He served as Justice of Peace in the 451st (Waresboro) district, 1872-1877. He was Receiver of Tax Returns of Ware County (two year terms) 1881-1885. He was postmaster at Waresboro , October 20, 1880 until 1889.
In 1896 he was elected a member of the Board of County Commissioners of his County, serving by re-elections until 1910. He was a member of the Waresboro Lodge, # 217,
F. & A.M., receiving his degrees in 1865, he was suspended in 1869.

Daniel H. Bennett was a witness for Duncan C. Carmichael's pension application saying he was in the same unit. D. H. Bennett also has a CSA pension application on line saying he enlisted in Company K of the 26th GA infantry at St. Simon's.
When the surrender came, he had been home on furlough and could not get back as the railroad had been washed out.
