Graveside services will be held for Martha Esther Boland on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at Greenlawn Sourthwest Cemetery at 2739 Panama Lane. Pastors Charles and Sylvia Lack will officiate. Martha Esther Boland was born on November 5, 1910 to William Elwood Shockey and Barbara Ethel Shockey in Lafayette Indiana. She passed away on March 7, 2010 at 100 years old, after a brief illness. She married Harry Gayle Kelly in 1931 and lived in Lafayette until they moved to California in 1938. She is preceeded in death by her first husband, Harry Gayle Kelly and by second husband , Andrew J. Boland, an infant son, Ronald Gayle Kelly, born in 1936, and by son-in-laws Ernest Shatswell and Steve G. Campbell. She is survived by daughter Esther Louise Campbell and Rich Larson, and daughter Kaaren Leah Shatswell. She married Andrew Boland in 1974 and lived in Kernville until moving to Bakersfield. Some of her favorite activities were oil painting, fishing and cooking. She volunteered as a pink lady in Kernville and she and Andy were Grand Marshals and rode their horses one year in the Whiskey Flat Parade. She leaves quite a legacy with grandchildren, Leslie Brown and husband Bobby, Steve Campbell and wife Linda, Phillip Campbell and wife Eva, Ron Smith and wife Beverly, Randy Smith and wife Melissa, Deena Hill and husband Ray, Lynna Shroyer, and Kelly Larson and husband Quentin, Tom Shatswell and wife Kelly and Vicki Knutson. She also has 29 great grandchildren and 24 great, great grandchildren. She also leaves behind many nephews, nieces and lifelong friends. She celebrated her 100th birthday just the way she wanted to, with a big party with her friends and family. She touched a lot of lives and will be missed greatly, and remembered for her kind heart and her love of family. A celebration of her life will be held after the graveside service at the home of Randy and Melissa Smith. A special thank you to Optimal Hospice for their kindness and care the last two weeks.
