Joseph George Rice, 83, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, brother and uncle passed away peacefully on January 2, 2011 after a short illness.

Joe was born January 13, 1927 in Alton, Madison County, Illinois. He was preceded in death by Alma, his beloved wife of 53 yrs.; his parents, Harry H. and Mary E. Boomer Rice; his brothers, Charles F. Rice, Dudley H. Rice; his sisters, Cassie L. White, and Dorothy Mayberry and his niece, Roxanne Skyvara. Joe is survived by his seven daughters; Marianne (Donald) Crossman of Willcox, AZ, Debra (Thomas) Capple, Karen (Leon) Stough, Jeannie (Jay) Levinson of Debary, FL, Sandra Borquez, Pamela (Don) Reid, Lisa (Mithkal) Smadi of Round Rock, TX; one son, Joseph George (Kimberly) Rice II; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren with a new great-grand-daughter due in April, 2011; 2 great-great-grandsons; one brother, Robert W. (Anne) Rice of Illinois, and several nieces and nephews.

Joe was in the U.S. Army from March 22, 1945 to December 8, 1946. In the Army, Joe was stationed at Ft. Sheridan, Illinois, Fort McClellan, Alabama and served in the occupation forces of Japan. Joe was honorably discharged in 1946 but unable to find permanent employment re-enlisted in the U.S.A.F. on May, 29, 1947. In the U.S.A.F., Joe was stationed at Bolling A.F.B., Washington D.C. (where he met Alma) until July of 1950, Kunsan Air Base, Republic of Korea until 1957, Orlando A.F.B, Florida until 1960, Travis A.F.B., California until 1963, Ramstein A.F.B., Germany until 1968 and Davis Monthan A.F.B., Arizona retiring as a M/Sgt in law enforcement on August 1, 1972. Upon retirement from the U.S.A.F. he worked for TUSD District #1 in their security department and retired in 1986. Joe was very faithful to his Lord in attendance at Tucson Baptist Temple and accepted Christ as his savior in August of 1971.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 7, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Funeral Service to follow on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., both to be held at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Reverend Robert "Bud" Savage will officiate. Entombment will follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery.

Joe's many friends are invited to light refreshments immediately following the Funeral Service at Tucson Baptist Temple, 1525 S. Columbus Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe's name to Tucson Baptist Temple. Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY.
