Marjorie Louise Stephens 75, of Leavenworth, Kansas, passed away at her residence October 23rd, 2009 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens. Marjorie was born July 14th, 1934 in Leavenworth, Kansas the daughter of Marion and Martha (Schonherr) Carter, Sr, and grew up in Bain City as it was known then.
She attended and graduated from Leavenworth High School.
Marjorie married Sherrill R. Stephens June 23rd, 1972 in Leavenworth.
She babysat for the Anthony family who owned the Leavenworth Times, and was the relative of Susan B. Anthony in her younger years. She worked at the Cody Hotel and Hallmark Cards before embarking on thirty five years of civil service with the Veteran's Administration and the US Department of the Army as a Nurse.
She enjoyed fishing, scrapbooking, embroidery, and served at the Church Camp for many years.
She is survived by her husband, one sister, Martha Flanders of Kansas City, Kansas, three nieces; Leeann (Mike) Fitzgerald of Leavenworth, Cyndi (Jeff) Fry of Lansing, and Sandi Olson of Prescott, Arizona. Two nephews; Marion Carter, III of Leavenworth and Daniel (Nicole) Flanders of Kansas City, Kansas, and 6 great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin Leonard Carter, and Marion Lee Carter, Jr.
