Darrell Vincent Herman was born on October 23, 1959, in Belcourt, ND to Edward and Dorothy (Laducer) Herman. He was raised, educated and lived most of his life in Belcourt. He received his high school diploma from Honolulu High in Hawaii. Darrell was enlisted in the United States Army in 1977 and served in Washington State, Korea, and Hawaii. He was united in marriage to Annette Belgarde on May 16, 2008 in Rolla.
Darrell was the beloved and favorite uncle of his nieces and nephews. He loved animals, especially cats and nurtured several pets throughout the years. He enjoyed pool, golf, fishing, and taking walks with his parents. He was especially close with his mother and made it a point to visit or call her every day.
Darrell was a skilled machinist and worked for Turtle Mountain Manufacturing in Belcourt. He also worked in Jamestown, Grand Forks and Bismarck.
Darrell is survived by his loving wife, Annie Herman of Rolla; his parents, Edward and Dorothy Herman of Belcourt; step-daughters: Rene, Tachael, Robin, and Gabrielle Lassonde of Rolla; brothers: Edward Jr. and Clifford "Buck" (Barb) Herman, both of Rolla; sisters: Donna (Pat) Brown of Fargo, ND, Audra (Terry) Poitra of Grand Forks, Yvette (Chris) Wolfe of Katy, TX, and Yvonne (Paul) Murphy of Grand Forks; Godchildren, Yvete Wolfe and Hailee Herman; fourteen nieces; three nephews; and one grand-neice.
Darrell was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Freda Dilley; paternal grandparents, Ernest and Mary (Chibun) Herman, his aunt, Marlys Tetrault; and his uncle, Dan Herman. Funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, January 8, 2009, at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt. Burial was in St. Ann's Cemetery, Belcourt. Casket bearers were Verlin Allery, Verlin Allery Jr, Pete Weidemann, Pat Brown, Dan Herman and Kelly Gibney. Honorary bearers were all Darrell's brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews.
Military honors were accored by the Lilley-Dionne American Legion Post #2262 of Belcourt.
