TRUCKER BURNS TO DEATH NEAR MASON CITY......MASON CITY......Funeral services were pending Tuesday for Arnold A Schmolke, 46, Mason City, who burned to death late Monday when his 32 ton gasoline transport burst into flames along US 18, five miles east of here.
Authorities said Schmolke had pulled off the road to talk to another driver when the rear portion of the truck sank into the soft shoulder causing the transport to tip over, bursting a saddle tank and exploding in flames.
