Mrs. Joseph Michael Cudahy, widow of the Chicago civic leader and a daughter of the late Joy Morton, former chairman of the Morton Salt Company and founder of the Morton Arboretum near Lisle, died yesterday in her winter home at Palm Beach, Fla. Mrs. Cudahy had been ill since shortly after her arrival in Florida in January, according to friends here. She maintained homes at 1500 Lake Shore Dr. and 830 N. Green Bay Rd., Lake Forest. Mrs. Cudahy's husband had been president of the Cudahy Packing company and the Sinclair Refining Company, and was a director of the Morton Salt company. He had been president of the Chicago Historical Society, president of the Lake Forest Hospital Association, and chairman of the advisory committee of the Visiting Nurses' Association. Mrs. Cudahy was noted in her own right for social and civic work in the Chicago area. She had been honorary chairman of the Chicago Visiting Nurses' Association, a trustee of the Chicago Historical Society, and trustee and vice president of the Garden Club of America. In 1952 the Chicago Horticultural Society presented its Charles L. Hutchinson medal to Mrs. Cudahy for her efforts in behalf of horticulture. Mrs. Cudahy is survived by a brother, Sterling Morton of Chicago and Lake Forest. It was reported from Palm Beach that a private service will be held in the Cudahy home there today, with another service to be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Church of the Holy Spirit, Lake Forest.
