Funeral services were held at Topeka Baptist Church on June 23 for Mrs. Eunice E. Rutland, 89, of Jayess. Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Rutland died at the Lawrence County Nursing Home on June 20, 2007.

Mrs. Rutland was a homemaker. She was the last surviving charter member of Topeka Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maxie S. Rutland; one son, Maxie Carey Rutland; daughter, JoAnn R. Douglas; her parents, Horace Lambert and Minnie Bullock Lambert; five brothers, six sisters and one grandchild, Maxie Keith Rutland.

Her survivors include daughter in law Brenda Rutland, seven grandchildren: Ben H. Douglas II, of Veneta, OR; Pamela douglas Solomont of Johnson City, TN; Michael Rutland of Ruth; Michele Rutland of Jayess; Clay Rutland of Jayess; Maurice Rutland of Jayess, Melanie Rutland Cantrell of Hattiesburg; eleven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
