Bob was born December 14, 1930, in Wamego, Kansas, the son of Allen and Ora Troth Coon. He attended local schools and then entered the United States Navy in 1948 until 1954. Bob served 36 months during the Korean Conflict on the U.S.S. Wisconsin.
He married Juanita Jean Michaelis on April 7, 1953, in Wamego. She preceded him in death on August 26, 2003.
Bob was a self employed contractor and carpenter. He worked on numerous homes and projects in the area over his career. Bob loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed camping. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Diana Kleiner and her husband, Don, Belvue; his sons, Bill Coon and his wife, Linda, Alma, Jeff Coon, McFarland and Scott Coon and his wife, Kristin, Alma; nine grandchildren, Jodi Huddleston, B.J. Coon, Sara Winter, Kent Schley, Ashley King, Heather Jones, Lisa Tebbutt, Nathan Coon, Bailey Coon and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Bonnie Carlson and Shirley Seele and brothers, Jerry Coon and Mike Coon.
Graveside funeral services with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at McFarland Cemetery in McFarland. Mr. Coon will lie-in-state on Tuesday, starting at 3:00 p.m., at Campanella-Evans Mortuary in Wamego, where the family will greet friends from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.. They suggest memorial contributions to the American Lung Association or the American Diabetes Association and those may be sent in care of the mortuary.
