"OCEAN SPRINGS --Marie Eldora Previto Melvin, 85, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, in Gulfport. Mrs. Melvin was born in dauphin Island, Ala., and had moved to the Coast 70 years ago as a teenager, and remained until her death. She was a homemaker and a former member of the East End Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin A. Melvin, Sr.; her parents, Lawrence William and Gertrude Ryan Previto; and a brother, Lawrence D. Previto. Survivors include two sons, Calvin A. Melvin, Jr., of Jacksonville, N.C. and Kenneth Ralph Melvin of Ocean Springs; four sisters, Evelyn Tillman of Grand Bay, Ala., Dorothy Raley and Shirley Clark, both of Bayou La Batre, Ala., and Janet Thornton of Mobile, Ala.; one brother, Charles Edward Previto of Bayou La Batre; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home chapel, with burial to follow in the Biloxi City Cemetery."
