Janis (Jan) Marlene Folk, 74, Ortonville, died Mar 10, 2011, at an Ortonville care center.
She was born on Nov 8, 1936, the daughter of Fred and Lucille (Lohmeier) Cirks in Ada. She grew up on the family farm north of Ada, was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran church, and graduated from Ada High School in 1954.
She married Melborne Johnson on Jan 7, 1956. Five daughters were born to this union. They moved to Ortonville in 1966 and she began employment with JC Penny's and the Minnkota Shopper newspaper.
She married Ray Doney Dec 1, 1973. The family relocated to Albert Lea for a short time, returning to Ortonville in 1976. Ray died in 1977. Shortly after, she began working for the city of Ortonville at the Municipal Off Sale.
She returned to life on the farm when she married Gerald Folk of Milbank Sep 2, 1988. She worked as a bookkeeper at the Corona Elevator until she retired. After Gerald died in 1999 she moved back to Ortonville. During her free time she enjoyed her many grandchildren, antiques, reading, and decorating her home. Spending time with her friends and family around her oak dining room table brought her the most enjoyment.
She was diagnosed with lung cancer Jun 2010 and moved to Northridge Residence to complete her plan of treatment.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Melborne Johnson, Ray Doney, and Gerald Folk.
Survivors include her daughters Wanda (Mark) Kraemer of Monticello, Kris (Tim) Poehler of Ada, Terri Holtquist of Milbank, SD, Shannon (Larry) Millerbernd of Ortonville, Melissa Ireland of Alexandria, VA; stepchildren, Anita (Eric) Anderson, Wayne (Bonae) Folk, Tony (Kim) Folk, all of Milbank, Lana (Daryl) Foss of Harker Heights, TX, and Gina (Tom) Porozinski of Park Rapids; mother-in-law, Louise Folk of Milbank; 31 grandchildren and stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
