Roy Edward McGuire, 73, of 324 Cricket Hearth Rd., Sanford, N.C., died, Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at his sister's home at 6189 Lemon Springs Road.

He was born on Jan. 15, 1935, in Hartford, CT. to the late Edward S. McGuire and Adele Bassette McGuire. He came to Sanford as a manager in charge of relocation of New Britain Hand Tools from Connecticut to Sanford. He started his restaurant career at the Brass Kettle, where he was a partner with his sister and brother-in-law. He owned the Palomino Restaurant for over ten years. After he retired from that position, he became the co-owner with Paul Poe of the B&D Grill on Banks Street. He was a member of the Lee County Drug Action Committee, The Lee County Job Ready Partnership Council for 12 years, Chairman of the Citizens Against Drugs in Lee County, N.C., a member of the Board of Directors of the Care, Love and Concern Council, and Treasurer and Public Relations Representative and a member of the Board of Haven House. He was a member of the Small Business National Youth Summer Program, The Dare Program, The Sanford Chamber of Commerce and the Lee County Quest for Excellence. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by two sons, Edward McGuire and wife, Corradina of Bolton, CT., Dennis McGuire and wife, Ellen of Hebron, CT.; a daughter, Donna Armstrong and husband, David of Bolton, CT.; a sister, Lucille Granter of Sanford, N.C.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at Sanford Church of God on Sunday, April 20, 2008, from 4 to 6 p.m. and at other times at 6189 Lemon Springs Road, Sanford, N.C. A memorial service will be conducted at the Sanford Church of God on Sunday, April 20, 2008, at 6 p.m. with Pastor Eugene Powers officiating.
