Stella grew up in Blaine County . On October 28, 1934 in Greeley, NE she married Clayton Carruth. He preceded her in death in 1963. The couple lived in Blaine County for many years. They lived in Custer County for 5 years and then back to Blaine County . Stella worked at local restaurants and for the Brewster School System. She moved to North Platte in 1968, where she worked at the North Platte Care Center and North Platte High School . She will always be remembered for her cooking and baking ability. She enjoyed her family and friends, playing cards and games. Stella belonged to the Blue Star Mothers, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Brewster United Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Douglass of North Platte; son, Pat (Marcia) Carruth of Bremerton, WA; daughter-in-law, Sylvia Carruth of Grand Island, NE; grandchildren, Marion (Janet) Douglass of St. Libory, NE, Shellie Douglass of Broomfield, CO, Roxanne (Jimmy) Thompson of Phillips, NE, Clayton (Wendy) Carruth and Terrie (Marvin) Burton all of Grand Island, NE, Connie (Thane) McCall of Las Vegas, NV, Sophia (Paul) Coleman and Miranda Carruth all of Bremerton, WA; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Harriett Barnes of Gothenburg, NE; numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends; and special friends, Leanne Serrano and Jan and Laverne Hagmann all of North Platte.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clayton; son, Charles "Mike" Carruth; and infant daughter, Alice; son-in-law, Alvin Douglass; 7 brothers, Roy, Carl, Leonard, Lyle "Buddy", Earl, Glenn and Everette Barnes; 3 sisters, Nina Cooper, Erma Robbins and Mary Hurlbert; brother-in-law, Lawrence Carruth; and 2 sisters-in-law, Laura Saner and Myra Bauer.
Memorials may be made to the North Platte Senior Center , the Thrift Shop or to the Brewster American Legion.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home with the Reverend Bob Deardoff officiating. Graveside burial will be 1:30 p.m. in the Brewster Cemetery.
