Former Anchorage resident Kenneth Wayne Brown, who opened and operated Northern Lights Bingo, died July 9, 2007, in his sleep at home in Mesa, Ariz. He was 64. Ken was laid to rest July 13 in Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park with the assistance of a military honor guard in honor of his service to our country through the Army National Guard of Alabama.

Ken Brown was born May 27, 1943, in Cleveland. His family opened and operated Brown's Grocery in Jasper, Ala., which is still in operation today. Ken came to Anchorage in the '80s. He opened and operated Northern Lights Bingo until moving back to Alabama in the late '80s. He retired and moved to Mesa. His family wrote: "Ken's granddaughters, Brianna and Bailey, were the passions of his life. He also enjoyed golf, and won several tournaments during his years in Arizona. "Ken touched so many lives, all who will never forget his special magic."

Ken's sisters, Judy Price of Alabama and Anne Kovach of Texas; brother, Scott Brown of Alabama; daughters, Kim Gibson and Jennifer St. John, both of Arizona, and Melanie Concord of Alabama; along with Ken's grandchildren and many friends attended his service.
