William Upton Martin was the son of Lewis Young Martin and Ann Barnett Shreve ; he married first to Emma King on February 9, 1865 in Dallas, Alabama with a son and three daughters born to them. He married 2nd to Miranda Todd with a son and daughter in this 1897 marriage in Madison Co., KY.

William Upton Martin was a physician and served as military surgeon for the Confederate States of America during the American Civil war.
