Grace was the daughter of Jacob J. and Anna Jane ("Jennie") Nelson Hostetler. They were both from LaGrange County, Indiana but were living in Stuttgart, where Grace's father was a newspaper editor, when she was born. Grace's mother died when she was about 4 years old and she was raised by her father's cousin and his wife, David and Elizabeth Hostetler and lived in Middlebury, Nappanee and Elkhart. She married Clinton Glace in Elkhart on June 26, 1909. They had 8 children(Lillian M., Howard M., Ruth E., Gerald D. and Mary Alice), 5 of whom survived childhood. Grace died of peritonitis following surgery.
