Levi Langdon moved to Mobile from Marion, Perry County, Alabama, 1836-38 (1842 according to his obituary). He became associate editor of the Mobile Advertiser in 1838. He resided at 42 South Jackson Street, Mobile.

Levi Langdon Jr. was born in Southington, Connecticut Dec. 20, 1787, the son of Levi and Sarah Carter Langdon, and moved to Marion, Alabama in 1826-27 with his brothers Charles Carter Langdon and Giles Nelson Langdon. They established the largest store in the town, where Levi was also "the principal founder of the Marion Presbyterian Church, and was one of the first directors of the Marion Female Seminary. He married Margaret Moffett on November 15, 1831." (Heritage of Perry County, Alabama, by W. Stuart Harris, p. 30.)

His first wife was Clarissa Hyde, married Oct 5, 1814, in Southington, CT. She was a cousin of Caroline Holbrook Chandler, the mother of Florence Maybrick, born in Mobile, Alabama in 1862.

His second wife was Margaret A. Moffett, daughter of Gabriel Anderson Moffett and Sally Strong. She was a first cousin of Margaret Moffett Lea, Mrs. Sam Houston, the daughter of Temple Lea and Nancy Moffett. The parents of Gabriel Anderson Moffett and Nancy Moffett Lea were Henry and Margaret Anderson Moffett.

Levi Langdon's third wife was Harriet Lewis, baptized 22 Nov. 1801, Southington, CT, a daughter of Seth Lewis & Rhoda Cole. Harriet was first married to John E. Benjamin. She and Levi Langdon were married 26 July 1835 at Southington.

Levi Langdon and first wife Clarissa had four children:
1. Rhoda Bateman Langdon b. 11 Nov 1817 bapt. 10 May 1818 at Southington First Church. She married Edwin Wood King, 24 July 1833, Marion, AL., and d. 17 Jan 1895
2. Eunice 1819-1826
3. Elizabeth 1822-23
4. DeWitt Clinton 1825-47

Margaret Moffett Langdon had two children:
5. Margaret Moffett Langdon b. Dec 27, 1834, (who married Col. William Amos Buck and lived at "Shell Cottage" in Mobile; close friends of her half-siblings' cousin Caroline Holbrook Chandler and her cousin Frank Crawford Vanderbilt) and
6. Daniel Webster Langdon b. 1833 "who lived at Langdon, AL."

Harriet Lewis Benjamin Langdon was the mother of two children:
7. Charles Lewis (June 23-1836-died 1837)
and
8. Lewis Langdon, born Jan. 1839 and died 1839.

Levi Langdon Jr. and Charles Carter Langdon moved to Mobile between 1834-38 by some accounts, though his obituary says Levi moved in 1842. Some references say Levi accompanied his brother Charles and became co-editor when Charles became editor of the Mobile Daily Advertiser in 1838. Charles Langdon's biography said he moved to Mobile in 1834. C.C. Langdon was Mayor of Mobile, 1849-55 except for one year, and died June 8, 1889. Secretary of State of Alabama, 1886-90. C.C. Langdon owned a famous ornamental nursery at Langdon Station outside Mobile that was called the largest nursery in the state in 1858. Some of his catalogs from 1858 to 1874 are used in preserving or recreating historic gardens. Charles Carter Langdon Jr. was buried 24 April 1866 at Magnolia Cemetery.

The memoirs of Mobile mayor R.V. Taylor, son-in-law of Margaret Langdon Buck (daughter of Levi Langdon Jr. and Margaret Moffett), state that Levi Langdon was the founder of the Mobile Register. The Mobile Register was actually established in 1813. Levi's brother Charles C. Langdon was editor and Levi was "associate editor" of the Mobile Advertiser, which at one time merged with the Register and was published as the Mobile Advertiser and Register (Craighead's Mobile, by Caldwell Delaney, p.60 ). The Margaret Langdon Buck home, "Shell Cottage," where R.V. Taylor lived for 10 years, was built in 1830 by Col. John Forsyth (Delaney, p. 148) who, with Thaddeus Sanford, purchased the Register and Pilot in 1837 (Delaney, p. 73). Col. Forsyth was a longtime editor of the Mobile Register and also editor of the Advertiser.

(Washington, D.C.) National Era, June 24, 1858: "Levi Langdon, for twenty years editor of the Mobile Advertiser, has retired from that position."
