Aug 9, 1909-May 18, 2003

ALLIANCE - Dan Irven Ainslie, 93, died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at Box Butte General Hospital. He was born August 9, 1909, at Moscow, Latah County, Idaho, to Philemon and Mary Ainslie. Shortly after he was born the family moved to the Gothenburg area, where he grew up on farms and ranches at Gothenburg, Nenzel and Cody, Neb., and Wamblee, S.D. He attended school when ever possible, however, young kids were needed to work to help support the family. Dan worked at all sorts of farm and ranch jobs, meat cutter, a cow puncher, broke horses to ride, shepherding and he also worked at the Halsey Sub-Station planting trees for the forest service. On his 30th birthday, Aug. 9, 1939, Dan married Elaine Christoffersen. The couple eloped to Alliance where a Judge married them with Dan's sister and husband, Mary and Paul Laue as witnesses. The couple lived with Dan's parents north of Hay Springs for a brief period, before moving to the Christoffersen home place where they would spend the next 31 years farming. On June 25, 1940, the couple's only child, Leon Dan Ainslie, was born. In 1970 Dan sold the home place and worked as a farm laborer living at the Niesen, Gibson, and Andreasen places for the next 20 years. In 1988 they moved five miles east of Alliance where they would live for 13 years where he worked as a handyman and lawn care service. His parents, six brothers and four sisters preceded him in death. His survivors include his wife Elaine; son and wife, Leon and Deonna Ainslie of Arvada, Colo.; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, LaDona, James, Shara, Evan, April and Tristen Souther, DaNaye, Bradley, Courtney, Lindsay and Corbin Gettel, and Danyl Ainslie. His sister Mary Laue of Chadron also survives him as well and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 22, at the Bates-Gould Chapel, with the Rev. Don Mink officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at the Hay Springs Cemetery.
