Chico Record, Saturday Morning, March 21, 1908, pg 1 col 1: Another Butte Pioneer Taken By Death. George Washington Walker, one of the old residents of this locality, who came to California by the tedious yet interesting means of an ox team, passed away last evening at the family home on Laurel street in Chapmantown. His death was due to paralysis, an ailment that came upon him one week ago.

Deceased was a native of Ohio, aged 72 years, having been born March 26, 1830.

Fifty-two years ago, he came to Chico, having come from Missouri across the plains by means of an ox team. For thirty years he was employed on the ranch now owned by James D. Phelan. He leaves a wife and three sons, and one daughter. The latter, Mrs. Celima Holmes, and two sons, George and John and the widow reside in Chico. The third son, Charles, is a resident of Lebanon, Oregon.
