Roy Emmett Vernon, age 71, of R. R. 1, box 145 B, Westville, La Porte County, Indiana died May 4, 1983, 1:50 a.m. at the St. Joseph Medical Center, South Bend, St. Joseph County, Indiana after a long illness [Chronic kidney disease].

He was born March 10, 1912 to Frank Hollingsworth and Eva Jane Pasley Vernon in Logansport, Cass County, Indiana.

He married his first wife Clara Lorene "Rene" Taylor Vernon Abt. 1930 and had one son James Taylor Vernon [Find a Grave Memorial# 135126442].

His second wife was Gladys Marie Boyd Vernon they married June 16, 1934. They had two sons Dale Vernon of Michigan City, Indiana and John Vernon of Downers Grove, Illinois both survive. They would remain married till her death from Cancer.

He married Cecil "Maxine" Bell Taylor in the mid 1950's. They had no children together and would remain married till his death.

He was drafted during World War II and was rejected for service due to chronic illness. He worked W.P.A. projects during the Great Depression Era. He was a Patrolman with the Monticello Police Department, Monticello, Indiana for a short time before heading to Westville, Indiana working for the Indiana Department of Corrections at the Indiana State Prison, Michigan City, Indiana and State Prison Farm. He was a Correction Officer, foreman at the prison garage and the prison farm. He also worked at Maxine's family farm.
