T. Edward Austin, 63 Effingham businessman and widely known in political circles in the state, died April 21, 1965, in St. Anthony Memorial Hospital.

He had been in failing health for some time and had been a patient at the hospital here for about a week. He resided at 220 West Wabash Avenue.

Born on May 21, 1901, he was the son of William W. And Mamie Wade Austin. He graduated from Effingham High School and was a 1924 graduate of the University of Illinois. After his graduation he was associated with his father in the Austin Poster Advertising Company and also operated a branch of the William J. Smith Investment Co.

Austin was a member of a pioneer family which was identified with the growth and expansion of Effingham about the turn of the century.

In political life he served the Republican party for many years as committeeman and held a high position in the administrations of former Governors Green and Stratton

Austin was chairman of the Republican county central committee for more than 20 years.

He served as superintendent of the division of supervision of parolees from 1952 to 1961 under former Governon William Stratton and during the administration of the late Governon Dwight Green 1940-48, and was a member of the State pardon and parole board.

Presently he owned and operated the JRT Finance Corp., the Austin Poster Advertising Company and the Effingham Insurance Agency. Austin was also director of the Citizens Building and Loan Association and a member of the Elks and Moose lodges.

Surviving are his wife, the former Frances Crews; a daughter, Mrs. John L. (Frances) Hall; sons, William W., a student at the University of Illinois, and Thomas R., at home; and sisters, Linnie and Cornelia, both of Effingham; and Mrs Garland (Mary) Orr, Marissa.

Funeral services are tentatively set for Saturday. The body in at the Johnson Funeral Home.
