Merrill Merry Auto Salesman,
Dies Suddenly
Merrill (Bud) Merry, 41 of Effingham, a salesman at Laue Motor Co., died unexpectedly about 2:30 p.m., Wednesday at St. Anthony Memorial hospital where he had been a patient since 10p.m., Tuesday.
Mr. Merry was a lifelong resident of Effingham county and had been a member of the sales staff at the automobile firm since 1940.
He was a son of the late Cecil Merry and Mrs. Ada Merry of Effingham, who survives. He was married to the former Gwendolyn Volts.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are sons, Richard, a student at Eastern Illinois University, Charelston; James, a student at Effingham high school, and Stephen, at home; daughters, home; and a sister, Mrs. John Cooley of Effingham.
Mr. Merry served with the Army for 4 1/2 years during World War II. He was a member of Effingham post American Legion: Effingham County Sportsman's club; Effingham Lodge 1016 BPO Elks; the local Country Club and the Masonic lodge.
The body is at Johnson funeral home where friends may call after 10 a.m. Friday.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Centenary Methodist church of which Mr. Merry was a member. Burial will be in Oakridge cemetery.
Effingham Lodge No. 1016 BPO Elks will hold services for M. Merry at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Also a Mosonic service will be at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home both on Friday.
