In the 1944 Monrovia City Directory, Melvin was listed under Monrovia City Government as being a member of the Planning Commission.

In the 1936 San Marino Directory, Melvin's older brother appears:

According to the California death records, Peter J. Langlie's mother's maiden name was Lommen. Peter was b. Feb. 2, 1878 and d. July 26, 1957; and Elizabeth was b. Aug. 19, 1978 in Ill. and d. Sept. 7, 1967

There is also a Langlie, Lloyd M., insurance co. rep. (a salesman in 1937, and a fire ins. rep. in 1938) Lloyd was also b. in So. Dakota but his mother's maiden name was Jones, so perhaps he was a nephew of Melvin's. Lloyd was b. Dec. 17, 1911 and d. in Contra Costa Co., Ca. on Dec. 16, 1993.

CALEDONIA, Minn. – Melvin Langlie has returned to his home at Monrovia, Calif., following a week’s visit with his cousin, Miss Georginia Lemmen, and with relatives and friends at Spring Grove where he also attended the homecoming.

A former Lake Preston boy, Warren Langlie, now of Monrovia, Calif., made his debut as a concert pianist in Carnegie Hall, New York, Dec. 29. His program of Bach preludes, Schubert Fantasy Op. 78 and Beethoven’s Variations of Diabelli was well received.
Several relatives were present for the concert. They were his father, Melvin Langlie of Monrovia, formerly associated with Mill-Lloyd Bank of Lake Preston, his sister, Mercedes. Mrs. Hugh Haroldson, Inglewood, Calif.; cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Schrader, Princeton, N.J.; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bruce (nee Ruth Johnson), Wasta; and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Crum (nee Rachel Paterson), Westfield, N.J.
A graduate of Oberlin Conservatory, Oberlin, Ohio, Warren Langlie received his doctorate in music from UCLA. He is a nephew of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Ferguson, Huron.

For his 1960 Ph.D. dissertation, Warren M. Langlie of The University of California at Los Angeles wrote “Arnold Schoenberg as a Teacher.”

According to the Social Security Death Index, Melvin and Frances' son, Warren M. Langlie was born on June 20, 1920. His last address on record was Laguna Beach, Orange Co., Ca. He died on Aug. 22, 2002 at the age of 82.
